What is a PDF Splitter?

A PDF splitter is a tool that allows you to break a single PDF file into multiple smaller documents. This is incredibly useful for extracting specific chapters of a book, separating individual invoices from a bulk billing document, or removing unneeded pages to reduce clutter. Unlike a "Print to PDF" method which can sometimes lose links or metadata, a dedicated splitter preserves the internal integrity of the pages.

Two Powerful Ways to Split

1. Extract All Pages

Turn every page of your PDF into its own separate document. This is ideal for managing large archives where each page contains independent information, like a stack of scanned receipts or individual forms.

2. Extract Page Ranges

Specify exactly which pages you want to keep. You can extract a continuous range (e.g., pages 5 to 10) or specific scattered pages (e.g., 1, 4, 12). All selected pages are merged into one new PDF document.

Security & Data Sovereignty

Privacy is at the core of OrangeTool. Traditional PDF tools like Adobe Online or Smallpdf require you to upload your document to their cloud servers. This means your private information, such as social security numbers, medical records, or legal contracts, is being stored on someone else's computer.

OrangeTool is built using WebAssembly and JavaScript. The logic to split the PDF runs entirely inside your own browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox). When you "upload" a file, it never leaves your machine. The split happens in your computer's RAM, and the resulting files are served back to you as local blobs. Your data remains yours—period.

How to Define Page Ranges

Our range parser is flexible. Use the following format for best results:

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a file size limit for splitting PDFs?

Technically, the only limit is the available memory (RAM) on your device. Most modern computers and smartphones can easily handle PDF files up to 100MB or 200MB. For extremely large files, we recommend splitting them in smaller batches.

Does this work with password-protected PDFs?

If the PDF is encrypted, you must provide the password to open it before it can be split. Currently, OrangeTool supports unencrypted PDFs. If your file has a password, please unlock it using a PDF unlocker before using this tool.

Will the resulting files have watermarks?

No. Unlike many other "free" online tools, OrangeTool does not add any watermarks, logos, or branding to your documents. The pages you extract are exactly the same as the original.

Which browser is best for splitting PDFs?

Any modern evergreen browser will work perfectly, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Apple Safari (on both Mac and iOS).
